Telecom tribunal TDSAT has decided to hear all three petitions against TRAI filed by BSNL and COAI collectively on May 26.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Cellular Operators Association of India has challenged the telecom regulator on differential tarrifs, qualitative service norms and interconnectivity.

COAI, an association of telecom operators, has challenged the regulator over differential tarrifs and qualitative service norms, while in the third case, state-run BSNL challenged on interconnectivity.

TDSAT chairman Justice N Santosh Hegde directed for collective hearing because interconnectivity between the different operators was the common issue in all the three petitions.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had issued notices to operators regarding the quality of services and said the call-drops should not be more than 0.5 per cent as per the international standard.

COAI challenged it and contended that till date TRAI has not codified any norms for the quality of the services and blamed it on BSNL for providing poor quality of interconnectivity between them.

It also challenged TRAI's regulation on differential tariffs. Operators were charging more money for the calls terminating at the state run BSNL or MTNL network in comparison to other service providers' networks.

In the third case, BSNL has challenged its regulation directing it to provide interconnectivity to other operators within a time-frame of 90 days. It contended that it does not have the proper infrastructure.
