Leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel Ltd on Thursday posted a 49 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 682 crore (Rs 6.82 billion) for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2006, riding on strong customer additions.
The consolidated revenues for fourth quarter grew 47 per cent over the same period last fiscal to Rs 3,411 crore (Rs 34.11 billion).
For the 2005-06 fiscal, the company's net profit rose by 51 per cent year-on-year at Rs 2,258 crore (Rs 22.58 billion) while its total revenues went up 46 per cent to touch Rs 11,663 crore (Rs 116.63 billion).
During the quarter under review, the company registered the highest ever net addition of 33.99 lakh customers, leading with all India market share in the wireless subscriber category of 21.8 per cent.
"The company's overall customer base crossed two crore-mark (20 million) and during the year, the company added over 90 lakh subscribers," announcing the result Bharti Airtel chairman and MD Sunil Mittal said, adding "Bharti has delivered a strong performance which reflect success story of Indian telecom sector".
