The government has no plans to extend the September 30 deadline given to private television channels to conform to the guidelines as regards foreign investment.

An indication to this effect was given by Information and Broadcasting Minister S Jaipal Reddy, who told reporters that so far several extensions have been given in this regard and now government wanted to put a stop.

The government had asked the channels to ensure that the foreign direct investment in the channels should not be more than 26 per cent and the Indian entity should have 51 per cent holding.
