The government on Monday said it would overcome the problem of LPG shortage in the country by Diwali, even as the situation in the national capital was brought under control.

"There has been an increase in LPG supply from oil companies to the distributors. With this, we are trying our best to overcome the situation, though the problem persists in some pockets of the country," Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar said.

He pointed out that despite efforts by the government, there was a shortage in some parts of the country as LPG meant for domestic use was being diverted for commercial purposes by some distributors.

"I appeal to people to come on record and register their grievances whereby action can be taken against such distributors," he said.

About the reshuffle in the LPG distribution structure, he said the committee monitoring the situation has identified a few areas where the problem cropped up and action would soon be initiated.
