Predicting that the IT market would continue to grow over the next 3-4 years, a top official of iGate Global Solutions on Wednesday said there was a sense of urgency on the part of large US companies to do technology work in India.

"In the past few years, only a couple of big US players were aggressive in pushing the works to India. But in the last few months, there is a heightened sense of interest from more big companies to do work out of India," Phaneesh Murthy, chief executive officer, iGate, said.

Murthy said one of the interesting trends he noticed in recent times was the second time offshorisation wave.

"Companies which already had the first time off shoring experience are now looking at off shoring from a more strategic point of view. A number of key wins in the last six months have taken place because of the second time offshorisation wave.

"The market also looks strong. The total IT budget of the Fortune 1000/Global 2000 companies are in the $250-300 billion range annually. Companies, which are sending about 6-7 per cent (about $18-22 billion) of the budget are expected to spend 15-20 per cent ($50-60 billion)," he said.

Asked about the scams in BPO firms, he said that would not have any major impact, since the momentum in India for off shoring was strong and the industry had matured.
