As per the present norms, irrespective of when the unit was set up EOUs would get the 10-year exemption only up to 2009-10, which may not be for full ten years as in the case of SEZs, an EPCES delegation told the director general of foreign trade K T Chacko in a meeting on Monday.
This benefit was available to SEZs without any time limit, EPCES said, adding it should also be made available to EOUs for attracting more investments in the units, according to an EPCES release.
The council also highlighted other issues before the DGFT such as fast track clearance, exemption from central sales tax to EOUs, service tax exemption to EOUs and non-availability of DEPB scheme, the release said, adding the meeting was aimed at incorporating suggestions for the new Foreign Trade Policy for 2005-06.
