Pierre Omidyar takes the number two spot on the Fortune list of '40 under 40.' He launched eBay in 1995, with his wife Pam, as an experiment. Today, his experiment has proven to be a huge success.

He changed the face of Internet commerce in 1995 when he created eBay, the world's online marketplace.

He is now a full-time philanthropist investing in and providing leadership that cultivates community effectiveness.

Pierre graduated from Tufts University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science.
