Oil and Natural Gas Corporation has been adjudged the greenest company in the country, while Reliance Industries has been ranked second in a survey conducted by Business Today-ACNielsen ORG-MARG.

Five oil and petroleum sector companies -- ONGC, RIL, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd and Castrol India are among the top 20 green companies, according to the survey.
The other companies in the list include Ranbaxy Laboratories, Hindustan Lever Ltd, Larsen & Toubro, Maruti Udyog, and Hero Honda Motors, the survey added.
Reliance emerged as India's greenest company amongst the private sector.
The survey covered eleven sectors, which included agrochem & fertiliser, auto, cement, chemical, engineering, finance, FMCG, IT, mining, oil & petroleum and pharma. The oil & petroleum sector was perceived as most environmental friendly, and the energy giants ranked the highest.
The survey showed a trend, of companies now increasingly going green and moving towards an environment friendly approach towards business.
Methodology
The poll was carried out by ACNielsen ORG-MARG in Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai, and researched 200 shareholders to find out which companies they thought to be the greenest. The universe of companies was restricted to top 50 by market value (excluding services companies), and only the top 20 were ranked.
