The Calcutta High Court on Thursday admitted an amendment petition filed by the Faculty Council of IIM-Calcutta, in addition to the original writ petition that challenged the legality of the March 26 board meeting of the institute, and fixed the case for final hearing on May 11.

The Faculty Council filed the amendment petition alleging that the appointment of six new members in the board of governors of IIM-C by the HRD ministry was illegal, claiming that the appointments were not in consonance with the memorandum of association of the institute.

The amendment petition also sought an injunction restraining the respondents from taking any step with regard to the minutes of the 164th meeting of the board on March 26.

The Faculty Council filed the original writ petition before the high court on April 28, challenging the legality of the March 26 board meeting of the institute.

Meanwhile, IIM-C chairman Y C Deveswar has summoned a meeting of the board of governors on May 26.

Earlier the Faculty Council had urged Deveswar to reconsider the move to slash fees for students of the premier management institute which was announced in his draft resolution.
