Schwab began the proceedings in the company of IT Minister Arun Shourie, Planning Commission member N K Singh, Bajaj Auto Chairman Rahul Bajaj and CII Director-General Tarun Das, and then asked every Indian present in the main Congress Hall to stand up to a round of deafening applause from all others present.
It was as much an acknowledgement of India's long ties with the WEF as it was of India's stellar progress along the economic path.
Bajaj, speaking on the occasion, said the WEF had stood by India and brought the world to India through the annual India business summits, even when the business climate was not the best.
