THE PRIVATE SECTOR GIANT: India's largest private sector conglomerate Reliance Industries Ltd saw its market cap surge by Rs 38,456 crore (Rs 384.56 billion) to Rs 80,012 crore (Rs 800.12 billion), a gain of 92.5 per cent, in 2003.

Its market cap stood at Rs 41,556 crore (Rs 415.56 billion) in January, 2003.

The Reliance Group, founded by Dhirubhai H Ambani, is the country's largest business house with diversified activities in exploration and production of oil and gas, refining and marketing, petrochemicals, textiles, financial services and insurance, power and telecom.
