THE MEN WHO DARED TO DREAM: Infosys is run by a rather close-knit team whose most public face is co-founder and chairman of the company, N R Narayana Murthy.

The Infosys legend is by now well known. Murthy and five others, who worked together at Patni Computers in Pune, decided to form Infosys in 1981.

Each member of the team brings a specific and rather diverse skill set to the company. S Gopalakrishnan, the deputy managing director and the chief operating officer, is seen as the technical brain, while Murthy is the strategist and the public face of the company.

Nandan Nilekani is the managing director and chief executive officer and in the last three years has been groomed by Murthy to become the public face of the company.

Another key member is T V Mohandas Pai who is the director of finance and administration and chief financial officer of Infosys. He joined Infosys in 1994 and was a member of the committee which formulated and instituted the guidelines for the employee stock option plan for the first time in India.

Infosys's strong management team is seen as its biggest strength. Analysts say it is the reason why the company has been able to stay ahead of its peers and grow consistently.
