Kamesam gets extension as RBI deputy governor

The government has granted extension to Vepa Kamesam as deputy governor of Reserve Bank of India for a second time for three months beginning from Wednesday.

The extension has been granted from September 24 beyond the age of superannuation of 62 years, RBI said in a release in Mumbai on Tuesday.

On July 1, 2001, Kamesam, a former managing director of the State Bank of India, was appointed as deputy governor for a two-year period.

He was re-appointed in the current position from July 1, 2003 till today on his attaining the age of 62, it said.
