Cable operators on Saturday asked the government to control broadcasters by fixing a price limit for pay channels and making any violation of this provision a cognizable offence.
"Cable operators are now urging the government to control the pay channel broadcasters by fixing price limits for them too, making any violation of this policy a cognizable offence, as has been done in case of cable operators," said a statement from leading cable operators Roop Sharma, Vikky Choudhary and Rakesh Dutta.
They have also asked the government to strictly implement the programming and advertising codes for all the broadcasters who have "shown no regard for the government policies".
Even though only 24 days are left for the implementation of CAS, major broadcasters have not yet declared their individual channel rates, the statement said.
"Cable operators feel this is being done to harass the public so that it pressurises the government to delay CAS".
