Previous: 'An added burden on common man'

Your Views:s:I support the rise of Rentals and also Tariffs ? This should make the service better and lasting too. It will remove undue congestion. It will also lower useless usage. Also those who have telephones for the heck of having it and use barely the 75 free calls offered each month will then do away with Phones. Else all telecom cos would go into major losses. Mark my words and dont say I dint say so.

Your Views:s:No, not at all. In today's world when you are decreasing the prices of mobile tariffs, how can you snatch basic telephone from a poor. We are talking phones to everyone, how is it possible even to think the hike in basic telephone rates. Making accessories cheap and basic needs costly. Is it sensible?

Your Views:s: Increasing the tariffs for the fixed-line telephones will lead to more of the public moving towards mobile phones and with the mobile phone tariffs expected to fall to unprecedented lows, the Telecom Regulatory Authority is making a big mistake if they are considering increasing the tariffs.

Your Views:s: Instead of increasing the phone rentals,if the free calls given to govt.officials are withdrawn, telephone dept.'s revenue will increase.

Your Views:s: sir, yes i do believe and hope that it must be increased but could be of very small margin because most of the cell users have cell for incoming so the cell operators will get a major share than they spend on the outgoing calls of 1.20 rupees to DOT .i think every fixed line user will look at this appeal.

Your Views:s: If they rise, it will be the result of cartelisation which has occured in cellular industry for taking consumer on a ride in a garb of survival of the industry. This situation again brings into the forefront of need of effective MRTP laws in thye country to prevent such catrel formation either in Telecom or even in cement and ohteer industries Today increase in price will show how gaps exist in the indian legal system and need for effective laws which protect the consumer intrest

Your Views:s: NO. Rather, they should look at reducing the 3 min. pulse so that customers are encouraged to make more calls. In many developed countries, gulf countries, local calls are not billed at all!! If MTNL does this hike, people will look for better options like Hughes , Reliance WLL etc.

Your Views:s: It is not justified with land line user to increase the cost of calls or montly traiff. The war is in between mobile operator and CDMA operator. so its not a wise thing to include the land line user this war....

Your Views:s:The authorities can go ahead and raise the phone rates. And in few days time they will find that customers are switching en masse to the private operators or buying mobile phones !. Good way to increase mobile consumers !!

Your Views:s:The decision to hike the tarrif of basic telephone is quite disheartening, as there are certainly much larger number of basic telephone users all over the country than mobile users and this is certainly going to affect a much larger section of the society. Additionally, this will also deter usage of internet by individuals because of the high telephone call casts they will have to pay, in addition to the internet access charge.

Your Views:s:It is not necessary to hike the prices, rather the prices should be decreased. Monthly fixed charges should be reduced , and bills can be charged on the basis of number of calls. If charges are hiked, many of the customers will try to swich to other services, because they will effectively cheaper than fixed lines ( considering the servies etc). In other advanced countries these services are at minimum or negligible cost. To boost up the basic communication between the people measures should be taken to increase the number of customer base, which will increase revenue. This will a short term remedy to increase revenue but effectively it will be costly.

Your Views:s:the hiking is totally injustified as the services for the land lines are attrociusly poor in places like ramprasth, suryanagar, chandernagar the phones remain down for several days as wires are old and no maintenance at several places wirinfg is 20 years old there shold be an automatic reduction in rent for the period when the phone is down

Your Views:s:Recently, I read a letter written to the Editor of Times of India requesting for a slash in Landline rentals and on the very next day, the main headline is for hike a rentals as well as withdrawal of free calls. Any hike in rentals will badly effect the common man as he is not benefitted by reducing the STD rates of Fixed line providers or Cellular companies.

Your Views:s:A progressive country should try & make basic communication (in basic telphone services) free & gradually enhance revenues by promoting long distance communication, which should not be a problem in our huge coutry. Whats happening is simply ridiculous. Its time, we people unite. Alternatively they should allow an absolute free regime and allow more players. the Consumer should be the winner in the end at any cost.

Your Views:s:I am completly against raising triff of basic telephony in india it would amount to killing of telocom revulution whihc is about to happen in India. Even In US Local calls are completly free, there is no logic that Regulator should increase the triff its should be left on the induvisual player to decide on teriffs if he increases it he would bear the risk of lossing number of customers .there is no logic TRAI should step in to increase triffs.Indian Phone market is still in its infancy where it needs to increse teledensity to multifold to reach out to common masse.Communication cost in India is still high compared to any other Developed nation even China. this is already agaginst our deveolpment .

Your Views:s:I read that landline phones are subsidised and to reduce the cost of the government, the tariffs will have to be hiked. But I feel that instead of hiking the tariffs for phone, why does government cut down the cost incurred on each of the members of the Lok Sabha. I think if they reduce the security guards, servants, vehicles provided, phones provided, other misc cost for each minister and apply the same to each government official, they will save far more than what they can get from the hiking charges.

Your Views:s:Increase? what nonsence!. TRAI should know millions of middle class people use the telephone and how can they afford to pay the increase besides Govt's increase to all other commoditeies. TRAI should not increase the rates and should keep public happy.

Your Views:s:No, basic tarrif should not be increased on flat basis. 80% of fixed line users normally do not dial to any cellular number, so they should not be burdened with access charges.

Your Views:s:Basic Phone rates should not be increased. If NLD and ILD calls are subsidising local calls, so be it. The people who make these long distance calls belong to rich segment and should not mind paying more. Regarding interconnection charges people who use cell phone have to pay local charges in addition to airtime as they are using the facility. Similarly basic phone users also should pay a small fees for using cell network. That's fair.

Your Views:s:Telephone rates are already high enough. Basic operators are enjoying monopoly. Besides, basic operators are charging rents as per the capacity of exchange. Which seems improper when distances have become narrow. For example, I'm living in city area and paying Rs. 500 as fixed rental, getting 75 so called 'Free' calls. Bus is I count accumulated cost, I am paying Rs 6.66 per 'free' call. While minimum rent is Rs. 75 so the person living in nearer village would pay Rs. 1 for free call. These price discrimination should be abolished.

Your Views:s:We are talking of developing our nation. The Simple thing to make india on the world map is with good broad band connection and with cheaper cost. Instead of reducing the cost, the regulatory is instead increasing the cost. second point is that is it because of Reliance mobile the rates are increased to increase the use of reliance mobile. In my opinion the rates should be still reduced.

Your Views:s:Its unwise to think of hiking fixed-line charges.. Even with the introduction of Reliance Infocomm limited mobility services, still the tariff proposed by Reliance (i.e., Rs.600 per month) is not in the reach of a middle class man in India. Still a common man cannot reach for either a mobile or WLL keeping in the view of the initial investment he has to make for purchasing the handset.. In this perview, to withstand the competition, fixed-line charges should be made competitive to mobile charges so that more and more people go in for fixed-line

Your Views:s:Mobile is still concentrated in cities and is yet to attain the level of penetration and reach of land line phones. There is no justification inincreasing tariff of land line to feed mobile phones. It will definitely hurt common man and will effect business.

Your Views:s:No!! This hike is unjustifiable. It is for common people. Common man has to pay for the rich (cell phone users and NRI- ISD calls) to enjoy cheap calls. Burdening the weak is unfair. High rates will also affect spread of the medium specially when the phone density in the country is so low.

Your Views:s:In view of business competition with Mobile operator, the tarrif should be maintained at the existing level instead of increasing it. Otherwise, there will be sharp fall in subscribers for land line and increase in mobile holders. Infact, nowadays numbers of mobile holders are constantly increasing. The TRAI should take such measures, which can increase the land line subscribers. Tarak

Your Views:s:We are ready to pay economical charges for services. The rates should factor in investments but should not seek to protect status quos, including protection of past investments. Meaning, the economic benefits of new technologies should be for the customer. On the other hand, if the service provider cannot meet their reasonable costs (including a return on investment), we will not get service in the long term. I am agreeable for higher 'fixed' tarriff and lower usage tarriff, because that is the nature of costs in the telecom industry. The issue of prices is linked to competition too....the regulation should encourage competition and regulated pricing should attract new players to invest. The plan to increase the usage 'call' charges is not good...that will be a dampner in expansion of the markets.

Your Views:s:The tariff should not be hiked just to provide high profit to the telecom companies. These companies have been charging at a very high rate all these time and exploiting the subscribers. The shadow fight between various operators is only a game to convince the people of "necessxity to hike the tariff". The people of India have paid enough to the telecom operators. The TRAI should protect the people, not the interest of greedy companies.

Your Views:s:There must not be any incease in the land line phone tarrif. In fact, the duration of call should be increased to a minimum of 7 minutes. I really do not still understand why there should at all be a consideration for increase in the land line phone tarrif when there is many many fold increase in the number of users. The Govt. should further improve upon the services. At the existent level of tarrif the P & T Department should make enormous profit. If it does not, then there must be something wrong somewhere else and that shouls be thoroughly examined.

Your Views:s:Now almost everyone has got a fixed-line in their home owing to the steps taken by the govt. during the 80's. Makes easier for people to keep in touch with their dear ones. And now the idea of decreasing the duration of the local is a big blow. On the surface it looks as if the bill might get doubled. With advancement in telecom sector, probably we should be aiming at reducing the cost of the local calls further (In the U.S. local calls within the circle are free). Passing the burden to the fixed-line user is not justified.
