The Divestment Commission has said it has decided to commence work on proposals for divestment of as many as 20 public sector undertakings including telecom majors Bharat Sanchar Nigam and Mahanagar Telecom Nigam.
In its latest report to the government, the Commission notes that it has already commenced work on proposals for eight companies including BSNL, MTNL, Rural Electrification Corporation, Power Finance Corporation.
Others include Central Mine Planning and Design Institute, a subsidiary of Coal India.
The report also states that the Commission has decided to take up work on 12 other government undertakings including National Films Development Corporation, Water and Power Consultancy Service Ltd, National Seeds Corporation and State Farms Corporation.
National Handloom Development Corporation, North Eastern Electric Power Corporation, Hospital Services Corporation and Handicrafts and Handloom Exports Corporation also figure in the list.
The commission has also listed Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation, Central Cottage Industries Corporation and Education Consultants India amongst the PSUs. Reconstituted Commission has submitted as many as four reports since early 2002 involving Neyvel Lignite Corporation, Manganese Ore India, Dredging Corporation and Telecom Consultants India.
