The government plans to embark on a massive public relation exercise to showcase India in the United Kingdom as a major destination for health tourism and promote success stories of information technology and pharmaceutical industries.
The finance ministry has hired a UK-based public relation agency Financial Dynamics for this purpose and the company managing director David Lloyd will be in New Delhi on August 24 on a 10-day tour.
The cost of the exercise including the charges of the PR firm are not known.
Additional secretary in economic affairs department Prodipto Ghosh held a meeting with officials of key economic ministries on August 8 to work out a suitable programme, which will serve to empower Financial Dynamics with appropriate information about India, official sources said.
To ensure sustained coverage of India's economy and financial strength, it is proposed to provide inter-personal briefs and base papers, which would be supplemented by location visits for Lloyd during his visit.
Financial Dynamics would focus on British media and think-tank as well as trade, industry and financial institutions in the UK.
India's merchandise exports crossed $51 billion in the last fiscal and there are proposals to double the country's exports to UK to $10 billion.
