Vajpayee to inaugurate Indian Labour Conference

The impact of globalisation on economy, particularly on employment, will be the focus of discussion at the two-day Indian Labour Conference to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on September 28.

Social safety net, divestment policy of the government and problems before small scale industries, besides the recommendations of the Second National Labour Commission would also be taken up at the 38th Session of ILC, Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma told reporters on Thursday.

he said major areas of concern were informalisation of jobs as well as stagnancy of employment in the organised sector.

Verma said the conference will have a fresh look at the legislations and suggest remedial changes. The issue of social security including workers' health, safety, conditions of work and incomes will form the deliberations. Verma said protection of workers' interest in the event of divestment will be taken up.
