Tata Indigo set for launch by year-end

Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company, the country's leading automobile manufacturer will launch its new 'Tata Indigo' car in the 'C' segment anytime after October this year, Telco's VP (marketing), passengr car business unit, Rajiv Dube said on Wednesday.

Talking to media persons in Ludhiana, Dube said that Tata Indigo will cost somewhere between Rs 500,000-700,000.

"The car is designed to be the most spacious and comfortable sedan in 'C' segment," he said, adding it will be powered by a 85 bhp petrol and a 62 bhp turbo-diesel engine.

He said that it has a large 500-litre trunk space and 42-litre fuel tank capacity.

In reply to a question, Dube said that Tata Engineering has sold more than 1,90,000 Indicas in India since March 1999. "It enjoyed a market share of 13.1 per cent in the overall car and utility vehicle market in the year ending March 31, 2002".
