Law for granting labour rights to workers mooted

Based on the recommendations of the Second National Commission on Labour, a legislation is being formulated for granting labour rights to workers in the unorganised sector, Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma said on Monday.

"The labour ministry will soon formulate a legislation for granting labour rights to workers in the unorganized sector," he said, presiding over a function in New Delhi to mark Labour Education Day.

Singh said the legislation would go a long way in improving the educational and living standards of workers in the unorganised sector.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the tardy progress" in workers' education, he said concerted efforts would be made in the next two years for making up the shortfall.
