Delta signs Wipro unit for reservation services

Delta Air Lines said on Tuesday that it has signed on Indian back-office services company Spectramind eServices and US-based Sykes Enterprises Inc to offer customer reservation services.

Spectramind is a subsidiary of India's third-largest software services exporter Wipro.

A statement from the No 3 American airline's Mumbai office did not indicate financial terms of the partnerships for "select" reservation functions, which it called the first of its kind by a US airline.

Delta will work with Sykes's Philippines operations and Spectramind's Mumbai facilities, it said.

"This new agreement enables us to redirect reservation sales employees to handling the real-time needs of Delta's customers," Debbie Siek, vice-president, reservation sales and customer care, said in the statement.

Delta expects to have initial distribution cost savings of up to $12-$15 million annually, phased over a two-year period, she said.

Delta currently has 20 reservation customer contact centres around the world Mumbai.

The statement said Delta's reservation centre in Mumbai will not be affected by the agreement.
