India well poised as global development center: Intel

Intel Corporation, the world's largest computer chip maker, today said India is well poised as a global design and development centre.

The $13 billion multinational has been investing $25 million a year since 1999 in the country. Intel India Development Centre is the largest research and development establishment at Intel outside the United States.

''India is the fastest growing site for Intel with 14 divisions where over 800 software engineers work,'' said IIDC director and site manager Manni Kantipudi.

''Our operations here are powering the growth of new businesses at Intel.'' He said IIDC is engaged in high-end research and development activities in the areas of IA-32, IA-64, networking, communications and e-business.

Its focus areas in India are e-business applications, networking and communications, VLSI design, applications in manufacturing, system software, digital signal processing and device drivers.

IIDC is engaged in end-to-end product development for chip and motherboard designs, Kantipudi said.

''Intel is the pre-eminent building block supplier to worldwide Internet economy. And India is powering the growth of its new business like design services.''

Intel is the world's largest e-corporation with 90 per cent of its sales finalized on the world wide web.

IIDC supports Intel's Internet strategy to:

  • Catalyse its fastest adoption across all segments by driving industry standards,

  • Become the leading supplier of building blocks for the Internet economy, and

  • Successfully adapt the business to take full advantage of opportunities offered by the Internet and build competitive advantage.
