DD to launch new channel on Jan 26

Doordarshan is launching a new 24-hour satellite channel 'DD-Bharati' on January 26 focusing on a 'niche audience'.

Phasing out DD-News, the new channel will have three windows - children's programme, art, culture and heritage, and health and fitness and will help fulfill the mandate of Prasar Bharati as a public service broadcaster.

The focus of the channel is on edutainment and life enrichment. The health and fitness component among others features yoga, meditation, aerobics, nutrition, art of healthy living, alternative systems of medicine and health news.

According to a Prasar Bharati press release, the children's window will feature programmes for tiny tots, cartoon films, telegames, talent hunt, antakshari, magic shows, career guidance, counseling, children's news and programmes based on wild life.

Prasar Bharati has already signed an MOU with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, New Delhi, for programmes on music, culture and heritage for one hour twice a week.

The DD-Bharati will sport a bright new Doordarshan logo with a pleasant colour scheme with flowers spread over it representing the life enrichment character of the channel.
