After days of suspense, Polaris CEO Arun Jain and his colleague Rajiv Malhotra were on Tuesday handed over their passports by Indonesian authorities clearing the way for their early return home.
"The passports were returned to them by the Indonesian authorities," Charge d'Affaires at the Indian Embassy in Jakarta, Amar Sinha, said over the telephone when contacted.
Polaris vice-president Raghuraman Balakrishnan said from Chennai: "We will fully cooperate with the Indonesian authorities if the commercial dispute goes to Singapore for arbitration."
He said the company would firm up the future course of action in a day or two after the arrival of the duo.
Asked about the delay in getting back the passports, Sinha said the time taken could have been to complete 'necessary formalities.'
Reassurance from the Indian Embassy that the two Polaris executives would cooperate has also helped them, he said.
While their travel plans are still being worked out, the two could head back home today itself unless they have any plans to visit other places in Indonesia, Sinha said.
Jain and Malhotra were kept under detention by the Indonesian police on charges of alleged deception and fraud after Bank Artha Graha lodged a complaint with them.
The Indonesian police had last week released the two Polaris executives after diplomatic intervention both in New Delhi and in Jakarta. External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha spoke to his Indonesian counterpart pressing for the immediate release of the two.
