The Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation has announced a special rupee tariff for Indian tourists travelling on the Palace on Wheels during 2002-03.

Indian tourists will now have to pay 30 per cent less between October 2002 and March 2003 and 25 per cent less in September and April 2003.

The seven-night and eight- day journey will be available to Indian passengers at Rs 9,000 per person per night in triple occupancy, Rs 12,000 in double occupancy and Rs 15,000 per person per night in single occupancy in September and April 2003.

Children between 5 and 12 will be charged half and children below 5 years will be allowed free.

Introduction of the rupee tariff will encourage Indian tourists to enjoy the luxury train. Domestic tourists can now enjoy the “royal journey” at much cheaper rates during October-March.

The tariff will be Rs 10,000 per person per night in triple occupancy, Rs 15,000 per person per night in double occupancy and Rs 20,000 per person per night in single occupancy.

Till now Indian tourists had to pay an equivalent amount of $395 per person per night in single occupancy, $295 per person per night in double occupancy and $240 per person per night in triple occupancy in September and April.

The tariff during October- March was $485 per person per night on single occupancy, $350 per person per night in double occupancy and $285 per person per night in triple occupancy.

The seven-night, eight-day journey on the train takes tourists to Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Swaimadhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Agra and Bharatpur.

Acclaimed as one of the best train journeys in the world, the Palace on Wheels has carried some 36,096 tourists in 58 trips up to April 2002.

The commercial run of the train this season will start on September 4.
