A-I posts Rs 154-mn profit, plans new flight to US

Making a smooth turnaround, Air-India announced that it had made a net profit of Rs 154 million as against a loss of Rs 444 million last fiscal

A-I board, which met in New Delhi on Thursday afternoon, also approved plans for dry-leasing two additional aircraft and launching a new flight to the US via Paris by the end of this year.

India's international flag-carrier also posted an operating revenue of Rs 47.51 billion, with an overall revenue of Rs 50.32 billion, the official said.

Approving plans to dry-lease a Boeing 747-400 and an Airbus A-310 aircraft, the board also decided to start a new thrice a week service on the Paris-Newark route from this December. Civil Aviation Minister Shahnawaz Hussain had earlier announced that Air-India's network would be expanded after it dry-leased some more aircraft.

The board also approved resumption of A-I flights to Frankfurt, which were withdrawn in May, 1991.
