Oracle to invest Rs 600 million in Hyderabad facilitySyed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad Oracle India Limited, a subsidiary of Oracle Corp -- the world's largest enterprise software company -- has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government for acquiring seven acres of land for expanding existing operations at its India Development Centre in Hyderabad. "The acquisition of 7.39 acres of land adjacent to the Hitec City demonstrates Oracle's strong commitment to India and this will increase the physical space Oracle maintains at Hyderabad almost three-fold," Oracle India said in a statement on Thursday. The investment in the proposed facility will be around Rs 600 million. The MoU was signed at a ceremony late on Wednesday night. "The proposed centre will be a state-of-the-art world-class development facility and will host employees primarily involved in e-business application development for Oracle's global customer base in a 500,000 square feet office structure complete with a multi-storey car-park, and recreation and library facilities for 2,400 professionals," the note pointed out. Oracle first opened its IDC in Hyderabad in July 1998. It is the second such facility for the company in India, the first being the Oracle Technology Park in India. The Oracle is one of the largest MNCs employing more than 2,225 professionals, including 1,000 who work at the IDC, Hyderabad. "Hyderabad is fast becoming a significant centre in India for Oracle, and there are considerable opportunities for the team here to continue to create the high-quality, global applications products that have been the hallmark of Oracle's success and relationship with its customers," said Derek Williams, executive vice-president, Oracle Asia Pacific. "There is immense potential in India and Oracle views India as one of the key drivers in its global growth strategy. The extension of our association with the people and the state here is but one step in the continuation of a long and fruitful relationship," Williams said and pointed out that Oracle School of Advanced Technology is also a part of the International Institute of Information Technology at Hyderabad.
