HC set to expedite MERC jurisdiction caseA division bench of the Bombay high court has decided to conduct continuous hearings into the case to decide jurisdiction of Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission to adjudicate in the power purchase agreement dispute between the Dabhol Power Company and the Maharashtra State Electricity Board. The bench comprising justice A P Shah and justice S A Bobde has fixed the hearing into the case for a week beginning December 11 and has also allowed amendments to be carried out in the petition to the DPC. In yet another significant development, Jayant Deo, member MERC, made a statement that he will remain absent from the proceedings. He, however, clarified his stand by denying the allegations levelled against him by the DPC. It may be recalled that DPC had made allegations against Deo of being biased and may influence other member of MERC while passing the order. It was also alleged that he was attached to the Mumbai Grahak Panchayat, a non-government organisation, which was against the Dabhol project. The division bench has also allowed two other members of MERC, including Subramanyam and Venkat Chary to join the petition. YOU MAY ALSO WANT TO READ:
