HC okays NPIL-Rhone merger

BS Corporate Bureau

Nicholas Piramal has completed its merger with Rhone-Poulenc after the sanction from the high court for the same.

With this merger, the company now becomes the second largest according to ORG-Marg with a product bouquet of 300 products.

The shopfloor work force has been rationalised along with the consolidation of the sales and marketing teams. The marketing and sales departments are to operate it separately in order to exact maximum out of their respective brand portfolios.

"The integration process is well underway and it will lead to putting in place the best in-class processes along with manpower rationalisation and substantial cost reduction while maximising," said Ajay Piramal, chairman, NPIL in a press release.

"There are several major initiatives that we have put into place to optimise the benefits of the acquisition of Rhone Poulenc India. These extend across the manufacturing and supply chain, support functions, infrastructure and assets and organisation restructuring," said Vijay Shah, chief operating officer and executive director, NPIL.

NPIL acquired the equity stake in Rhone Poulenc held by Aventis Pharma in December 2000, after which the integration process began. Some of the brands that now are part of the NPIL portfolio are Phensedyl, Gardenal, Phenergan, Tixylix and Flagyl.
