Crucial Democratic Front meet on Enron put off

The Democratic Front Co-ordination Committee, which was to meet in Bombay to discuss the controversial Enron project, put off its meeting following the death of former Maharashtra chief minister Sudhakarrao Naik.

Prof N D Patil, convenor of the Co-ordination Committee, said that a fresh date for the meeting would be decided after the Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal returned from Pusad after Naik's cremation.

The Left parties in the ruling DF are insisting on scrapping of the power project and institution of a probe to fix the responsibility of those involved in signing of the power purchase agreement, 'detrimental to the state's interest'.
