LDF plans major thrust in Kerala IT sector if electedThe ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front, which missed the information technology revolution in its current term, has promised to take Kerala to the top position among the IT-savvy states in the country if it is given a second chance. The LDF election manifesto released in Trivandrum on Saturday has promised to churn out 800,000 trained IT personnel, including 100,000 graduates, in the next five years. Half a million of this would be trained to pick up low-end jobs like data entry and 200,000 would be given diploma level training. The manifesto has promised to convert the Trivandrum Technopark into the country's first high-tech habitat. Similar centres would also be set up at Cochin and Calicut. The three together would have three million square feet built up space for IT industries. The LDF's effort would centre round the creation of infrastructure facilities for hardware, software and IT services throughout the state. Facilities for this would be provided in all the engineering colleges in the state in collaboration with the cooperative and private sectors. Manpower training facilities would be provided in all colleges and polytechnics. The manifesto has also promised 75,000 to 100,000 Internet kiosks through optical fibre network. Computer courses would be made compulsory in all university courses. A bio-informatics and technology mission for protection bio-diversity and patents is another high point in the manifesto. The manifesto said that the LDF has recognised IT as the potential area for growth of Kerala's economy in the coming years. |
