Kirloskar Electric targets 20 per cent share of genset market

BS Correspondent

Kirloskar Electric Company (KEC), which has launched a series of compact power gensets in the 2.5-15 kva range under the Denki brand name, is targeting a market share of 20 per cent in the initial years.

"We expect it go up to 30 per cent by the third year of operation. The market has reacted positively to the launch and have started receiving several enquiries. Initially, we plan the launch of Denki gensets in western region, followed by the east," Vijay Kirloskar, chairman, KEC said.

The company claims that Denki is the first genset in India with a push-button start and a monoblock set, which makes it light weight, more compact and cost-competitive. The new gensets can provide power to commercial complexes, office complexes and cinema houses. Besides it can be used for agricultural purposes.

The company is a leading player in electric motors, alternators and a host of other electrical engineering equipment in the country. It has been manufacturing generators for over four decades and has an installed base with a total capacity of about 50,000 mw.

KEC has a wide service network, which includes more than 100 authorised service centres spread over the entire country. Moreover, the company has over 150 factory trained service engineers and technicians constantly providing after-sales service.

KEC manufactures generators and supplies them to original equipment manufacturers, who, in turn, assemble them with the engines, battery chargers, starters and batteries. The company has joined hands with Gadre Industries, Kolhapur, to source engines.
