Alfred Dunhill comes to India, to import entire range

BS Corporate Bureau

Alfred Dunhill, the English luxury goods company, which has been working on its India entry since the mid-1990s, has finally launched its first exclusive boutique in Bombay.

Mark Dunhill, director of Alfred Dunhill Asia Pacific said, "after conducting extensive consumer research, we have decided to bring our brand to India as the country represents one of the fastest growing economies in Asia."

Alfred Dunhill is one of the late entrants in the Indian market though Dunhill feels that the entry was at the right time. After Bombay, the company plans to spread its wings to Delhi, Madras and Bangalore.

However, no manufacturing will be done in the country and the entire range would be imported from its base in Europe. The Alfred Dunhill range will be priced at Rs 5000 and upwards. According to Dunhill, "the products are reasonably priced as Indian consumers are price-sensitive."

It will offer a complete range of apparel and accessories for men which encompasses clothing, leather goods, timepieces, writing instruments, lighters, fashion accessories, fragrances and eye wear.

The company has tied up with Ravissant, a retailer of premium brands, as its partner for developing its retail business. However, Dunhill was tightlipped on its investment strategy.

Alfred Dunhill is part of the Richemont luxury group, which owns the world's best known brands such as Cartier, MontBlanc, Piaget, Baume & Mercier, Officine Panerai, Van Cleef & Arpels and IWC.
