New five, two rupee coins to be in circulation from Saturday

President K R Narayanan will put into circulation new five rupee and two rupee coins on January 27 in commemoration of golden jubilee of the Indian Republic.

The new coins will bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar on the observe side with the legend 'Sathyameva Jayate' incribed in Hindi and the reverse face of it will bear the national emblem, an official release said on Thursday.

The existing five and two rupee coins would continue in circulation, the release added.

The new five and two rupee coins would weigh nine grams and four grams, respectively.
