CMC shares surge on privatisation meeting

Shares of state-run software services and hardware maintenance firm CMC Ltd rose as much as 12.26 per cent in late afternoon trading on news a government panel may discuss selling some of its stake in the firm at a meeting next Tuesday.

The shares rose to as high as Rs 298, up Rs 32.55 over the previous close, while the Sensex rose 0.34 per cent.

Divestment minister Arun Shourie said in an interview on Thursday that the privatisation plan for CMC could be discussed at a meeting of the Cabinet committee on divestment on January 30.
