Ray-Ban to introduce 160 new models

Ray-Ban, one of the world's leading sun glass makers, will introduce 160 new models in India in 2001, Harsh Chopra, managing director, Ray-Ban (India), said on Monday.

The new models are being introduced by the Luxottica group of Italy, which has globally taken over Bausch and Lomb, the makers of Ray-Ban.

The Luxottica group has already spent about Rs 10 million on upgradation of the Ray-Ban manufacturing facilities in Rajasthan.

The 160 models falling under five categories, namely, Hi-fashion, Classic Collection, Girl's Collection, Driving Collection and Action Collection, are intended to target the 15-45 years age group particularly in urban areas.

Introducing the models at a press conference, Chopra said, "We have leveraged on Luxottica's strengths in design, manufacturing, marketing and distribution to bring a world class quality and range to India.''

Marco Pirani, Regional Manager, Luxottica group, who also addressed the conference, said that Luxottica was committed to providing the same Ray-Ban that would be available in Italy or New York.

Production facilities are being continuously upgraded in India to keep in line with international standards, Pirani said.

''Quality is the main thing that is kept in mind because the Indian consumer is quality conscious,'' said Chopra. He ensured that the collection would be refreshed every six months to keep abreast with international standards.
