Infosys to set up world's largest software facility

Software giant Infosys is setting up its world largest facility on the outskirts of Bangalore with an investment of Rs 6.19 billion, Karnataka minister for large and medium industries, R V Deshpande said on Thursday.

Deshpande told reporters that the state high-power committee cleared the Infosys proposal and five other projects involving a total investment of Rs 45.02 billion, which would generate employment for 20,326 persons, at its meeting.

The setting up of the Infosys project, which would employ more than 7,000 software professionals under one roof was yet another glittering feather in the state's cap, he said.

Deshpande said the investment by Infosys in the new establishment was the single largest received by the state in software sector.

Infosys which currently has about 10,000 work force in its various units across the globe, has decided set up the largest unit in the city, Deshpande said.

The government has directed the Karnataka Area Industrial Development Board to acquire 100 acres of land on Hosur-Sarjapur road and hand it over to Infosys by March end.

The government, he said, has also sanctioned additional 100 acres of land to Infosys in Mysore to expand its facilities and another 25 acres at Mangalore.
