Andhra CM signs 3 MoUs with Dubai

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has signed three memoranda of understanding with the government of Dubai for co-operation and investment in the field of information technology, technical training and tourism.

Under the MoU signed with the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce, Andhra Pradesh will look at setting up shopping malls and a string of related facilities with investment participation from Dubai.

The other two MoUs were signed between Andhra Pradesh Technical Development Department and Dubai Internet City for technical collaboration and Dubai Customs for imparting training in information technology, respectively.

"Andhra Pradesh and DIC will constitute a three-member taskforce under the MoU to interact fortnightly and have meetings to review progress every three months," said T Gopala Rao, principal secretary and commissioner for industrial promotion, Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking at a reception hosted in his honour, Naidu urged Emirates, Dubai's national airline, to participate in the ambitious project of Shamsabad international airport, 24 km from Hyderabad. He also promised to discuss the issue of allowing foreign airlines to operate from the airport with the central government.

As part of the MoUs, Andhra Pradesh will provide software development and technical support to help Dubai to expand its business in the Middle East markets. This tie-up is expected to increase job opportunities in the Gulf for professionals from the state.

During his visit, Naidu also met Dubai's Crown Prince General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum and UAE Minister of Defence Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum.
