Measat, Andhra Pradesh plan sub-sea cable

Malaysia's telecommunications group Measat plans to set up a consortium with the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh to build a $300-million undersea cable network, the Business Standard said on Tuesday.

The sub-sea cable will connect India's emerging technology centre of Hyderabad, Visakhapatanam, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, the newspaper said.

The government of Andhra Pradesh and Measat are at an advanced stage of negotiations with Reliance Telecom Pvt Ltd, the Software Technology Park of India and Singapore's Star Hub to bring them into the consortium, the paper said.

Reliance Telecom is an affiliate of India's Reliance group.
