Birla Century Finance Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 6.47 million for the quarter ended December 31, 2000 as against Rs 5.62 million for the quarter ended December 31, 1999. Total Income for DQ 2000 increased to Rs 73.47 million from Rs 40.71 million in DQ 1999.

Strike by workforce at Plant II of Vikrant Tyres

Vikrant Tyres Ltd has informed BSE that has been stoppage of production at Plant II of the Company from night shift of January 12, 2001 consequent to a strike resorted by the workers. The Company had earlier informed BSE there had been a stoppage of production in Plant-1 consequent to the strike resorted to by the workforce of Plant-1 with effect from the night shift of January 11, 2001. With this strike, the production activity in both the plants has stopped.

High Court approves hiving off of Cement Undertaking of Zuari Industries

The Board of Director of Zuari Industries Ltd has informed BSE that the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, Panaji has passed orders on January 12, 2001 sanctioning the Scheme of Arrangement between Zuari Industries Ltd and Zuari Cement Ltd. situated at Yerranguntla in Andhra Pradesh. Himatsingka Seide Q3 net up by 20.83%

Himatsingka Seide Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 121.80 million for the quarter ended December 31, 2000 as against Rs 100.80 million in the quarter ended December 31, 1999. Net sales for DQ 2000 stood at Rs 332.60 million as compared to Rs 260.80 million in DQ 1999. Other income stood at Rs 4.20 million in the quarter ended December 31, 2000 as against Rs 10/- million in the corresponding period previous year. The Company has expanded its Fabric Weaving capacity by 25%. Six looms have been installed in October 2000 and eight looms will be commissioned by May 2001. The Board of Directors of the Company has co-opted Mr. Dilip J Thakkar, Chartered Accountant, as an additional Director of the Company with effect from January 13, 2001.

Bharat Forge Q3 net profit down by 79.29%

Bharat Forge Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs.40.20 million in the quarter ended December 31, 2000 as against Rs. 194.10 million in the same period previous fiscal. Net Sales stood at Rs. 1261.80 million in DQ 2000 as compared to Rs. 1526.40 million in DQ 99. Other Income is Rs. 3.80 million in DQ 2000 as against Rs. 5.30 million in DQ 99. The Board in its meeting held on September 15, 2000 has decided to demerge with effect from March 01, 2001, the non-core businesses of the Company and in pursuance thereof, an application to the Mumbai High court has been made by the Company and necessary approvals have been obtained. Subsequently, the demerger will entail allotment of shares without any payment in the resulting company to the shareholders of Bharat Forge Limited.

Workers resort to go slow tactics/production stoppage at Kinetic Motor's Pithampur factory

Kinetic Motor Company Ltd. has informed BSE that the workers at company's Pithampur factory had resorted to go slow and tool down tactics with effect from January 08, 2001 demanding the management to immediately terminate the services of a worker alleged to be responsible for a fighting incident which took place outside the factory between two group of workers outside working hours. Consequently, the management had suspended the concerned worker pending completion of inquiry as per process of law. However, the Company has informed that the workers of the factory have now resorted to stoppage of production demanding termination of services of the said worker. Management has appealed to them to behave in lawful manner and to resume full production immediately. Labour Court, Pithampur vide its order dated January 10, 2001 has also instructed the workers to start production Management is taking all necessary and lawful steps for resuming production.

Hikal DQ 2000 net profit at Rs.50.40 million

Hikal Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs.50.40 million in the quarter ended December 31, 2000 as against Rs. 46.50 million in the same quarter for the previous fiscal. Sales have increased by 6.60%, up from Rs. 245.20 million in DQ 99 to Rs. 261.40 million in DQ 2000. Other Income is Rs. 3.50 million in DQ 2000 as compared to Rs. 4/- million in DQ 2000.

Sangam Processors to issue preference shares on private placement basis

At the Extraordinary General Meeting, the members of the Sangam Processors (Bhilwara) Ltd. have approved the increase in authorised share capital of the Company from Rs 125/- million to Rs 175/- million. At the meeting, the members have also authorised the Board of Directors to allot preference shares worth Rs 50/- million on private placement basis. The members have also delegated the power to the Board of Directors to mortgage or charge immovable properties in favour of certain Financial Institutions and Banks.
