Intel arm invests in Indian IT firm

Intel Capital, the equity investment arm of chip-maker Intel Corp has invested in privately held Indian software services provider R Systems International, a senior Intel official said on Wednesday.

Director of strategic investments, Intel Capital - India, Siddhartha Das, however did not reveal the amount invested.

R Systems International, which started operations in 1993, specialises in segments like business-to-business, business-to-customer, e-governance and wireless and software development services. It has offices in the US, Singapore and India and has 200 active clients.

The firm's chief executive officer, Rekhi Singh said that Intel's investment will be used to fund the development of software solutions based on Intel's 32-bit and 64-bit chips.

R Systems International will also use the funds to set up four competency centres for the 64-bit Itanium chip, he said.

Intel Capital started operations in India two years ago and has invested nearly $100 million in 30 Indian companies. It focuses on making investments and acquisitions to support the Internet-related economy, including Internet infrastructure, content and services.
