Rastogi brothers in Income Tax net

Income Tax department on Thursday carried out searches at 32 places in the capital and Mumbai against exporter Subhash Rastogi, his brothers and other associates in connection with the case of bogus duty drawback.

Sources said that searches were carried out at 31 places in Delhi and one place in Mumbai against Rastogi brothers, three of whom have been declared as absconders by the CBI in the duty drawback scam.

They said the searches against the Rastogi brothers were initiated as they allegedly claimed incentives and deductions for exports which were not genuine.

A simultaneous 'survey' was carried at 25 premises of the export house, the sources said, adding the searches were expected to completed on Friday.

Subhash Rastogi was arrested by CBI on September 9 and continues to be in judicial custody. The agency has also announced reward of Rs 20,000 besides issuance of non-bailable warrant by a city court in Mumbai against two of his brothers -- London-based Virender Rastogi and Dubai-based Ravinder Rastogi.

A non-bailable warrant against the US-based Narinder Rastogi has also been issued by the city court.

The four brothers figured in the chargesheet filed by the CBI on December six allegedly claiming duty drawback on export consignments found to be only junk.

In a related development, a designated court in Mumbai again rejected the bail application of Subhash Rastogi.

No one from the exporter's firm was available for comments.
