HP signs up Wipro for global system integrationFakir Chand in Bangalore Withering the global tech meltdown, Hewlett-Packard, the $49-billion global IT leader, has signed up Wipro Ltd, the Bangalore-based global provider of IT solutions, to form a global system integration alliance for jointly developing and deploying a suite of network management solutions for global telecom and cable service providers. First of kind with an Indian IT company for HP, the alliance will leverage on Rs 31-billion Wipro's expertise in consulting, system integration and developing custom management applications using HP products/platform. Announcing the alliance here on Thursday, HP's Asia-Pacific general manager Steve Au-Yeung said the strategic relationship would enable both the partners to help HP reduce development and deployment cycle times for meeting the stringent time-to-market needs and service management exigencies of its customers, worldwide. "HP has world class solutions for service creation such as Bluestone and OpenCall platform; Process Manager for service delivery; OpenView platform for service assurance, and Internet Usage Manager solution suite for service usage. Using these suite of solutions, Wipro will be helping global telecom and network service providers to develop, integrate and deploy services quickly." Claiming that the alliance has already struck a deal to provide its services to a global cable ISP, Wipro Technologies' CEO for telecom service provider division T K Kurien said about 30 techies would initially be working on HP projects from India. Both the parties, however, declined to name the ISP company. "We expect to bag a couple of projects during the current fiscal year, and the number of software professionals who will be working on such projects will go up substantially down the line," Kurien affirmed. Stating that network service providers were seeking comprehensive frameworks for network management solutions to reduce 'go-to-market' time, Kurien said the alliance would help its clients improve their returns on such massive investments, besides increasing transparency in sharing service level information with their end-users. HP as well as Wipro officials also declined to project neither the revenue generation nor their revenue-sharing model for executing the joint projects. |
