Oppn, treasury benches clash in LS over UTI

The Opposition and the treasury benches on Friday clashed in the Lok Sabha over the UTI muddle with the Congress seeking clarifications from Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha on letters reportedly written to him by former UTI Chairman P S Subramanyam, forcing adjournment of the House for about two hours.

An angry Sinha lashed out at the Opposition saying it was 'extremely unfair' on its part not to have allowed him to reply to the adjournment motion on the issue in the House last week.

As Congress members led by P R Dasmunsi stoutly protested against Sinha's remarks during zero hour, the ruling NDA members displayed newspaper clippings of a report alleging instructions being given by a Congress member to a foreign bank to transfer certain amounts to another bank in violation of regulations.

As the members from both sides stormed the well of the House, Speaker G M C Balayogi adjourned the House till 1400 hours ahead of the lunch recess.
