India must solve Enron issue amicably: Lord PaulEminent NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul on Monday hoped that India and US energy giant Enron would resolve the Dabhol Power project imbroglio amicably and said that the dispute would not affect the morale of British power companies wanting to invest in India. "This is purely a commercial contract between two parties and any problem between them should be resolved amicably," Paul said at a meeting on 'Closer Trade and Investment Links with Noida',in New Delhi. The dispute was not going to affect any investment decision in Indian power sector by British companies, he said. Expressing his personal views on the dispute between Dabhol Power Company and Maharashtra State Electricity Board over payment of bills, Paul said, "I will not like to go for cost plus agreements. There is no need for fixing a return on investment. Let them fix a price, if acceptable go for it." Asked whether United Kingdom was interested to have joint ventures in India for the development of infrastructure, Paul said, "Today, it's an era of partnership. If the project is worthwhile, London will be party to it." Even though information technology is regarded as the business of the future, in an era of globalisation, Paul said UK was interested in having partnerships in all areas, be it infrastructure or software development.
