JPC must probe 'PMO role' in UTI scam: Cong

The Congress on Friday said any role of the prime minister's office or any member of the PM's foster family should be looked into by the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the stock market scam which will also investigate the UTI muddle.

''The PMO has never been above the scrutiny of JPC, party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy, who is also a member of the JPC on the stock market scam, told reporters.

He replied in the affirmative when asked whether the role of Ranjan Bhattacharya would be looked into by the JPC.

Reddy's statement came hours after the Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi announced in the house that the JPC on the stock market scam headed by BJP member Prakash Mani Tripathi would go into all matters connected with the UTI imbroglio.

Reddy said since the Speaker had powers to give ''additional directions'' to the JPC, it would address the concerns voiced by his party.

Hailing the decision that the JPC would also go into the UTI muddle, he said his party would continue to demand the resignation of Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha on moral grounds. ''His continuation in office is a blot on the fair name of Indian democracy'', he said.
