Huge tax amount yet to be recovered

A whopping sum of Rs 632.09 billion worth of taxes is yet to be recovered as on March-end, Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.

While outstanding income and corporate taxes amounted to Rs 530.50 billion, central excise tax worth Rs 83.23 billion and customs duty worth Rs 18.36 billion were yet to be collected, Minister of State for Finance G N Ramachandran said in a written reply.

Replying to another question, he said Bombay recorded a maximum collection of corporate and income tax of Rs 162.36 billion followed by Delhi with a collection of Rs 78.41 billion.
