'No further rate cut on GPF, PPF'

The government does not propose to further reduce the interest rates on small savings schemes, including PPF and GPF, minister of state for finance Balasaheb Vikhe Patil told the Lok Sabha on Friday.

Patil said the earlier lowering of interest rates was notified in the case of PPF on March 1,2001 and on GPF on March 13, 2001. However, the revision of interest rate on EPF with effect from April, 2001 is under the consideration of the ministry of labour in consultation with the ministry of finance.
