Govt for passing Fin, Rlys bills without discussion

The government is considering getting the Finance and Railway Appropriation Bills passed without any discussion if the deadlock in Parliament over the Tehelka expose continues, highly placed sources on Tuesday said.

With government-Congress standoff continuing in Parliament, the bills may have to be passed without any discussion, the sources said.

The Finance Bill, which contains the taxation proposals announced in the Budget has to be approved by Parliament by May 14. If the Bill is not passed within 75 days of its

presentation, the proposals would become null and void leading to a constitutional crisis.

Parliament, which remained paralysed for ten consecutive days in the first leg of the Budget Session, plunged into turmoil again on Tuesday with Congress demanding a JPC probe into the Tehelka expose.

Sources said that government was not averse to adjourning the House after passage of the two crucial legislations if pandemonium persisted as it had the support of the entire Opposition, barring the Congress, in view of the assembly elections.
