No dumping of chicken legs in India, says USThe United States on Thursday discounted fears of dumping of frozen chicken parts in India and termed as false reports that US poultry was subsidised. "There have been allegations, for instance that US poultry is subsidised at the rate of several hundred dollars per tonne. This is patently false," agricultural counselor in the US embassy for India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Weyland Beeghly told reporters in New Delhi. He said fears that there would be large scale dumping of chicken legs from the US into India were unfounded because India had high import tariffs and other factors like transportation and port costs would add to the final cost of the product. "We do not think that the prices of the frozen chicken parts would be so low as to constitute dumping," Beeghly said. He further pointed out that there were no government subsidies for broiler or egg production. "The US also does not subsidise the price to the consumer, nor any of the meats exported to the Asian markets," he said adding that the allegations that US poultry exports included meat 2-3 years old unfit for human consumption was false and without merit. Beeghly said US poultry meat had been coming to India for a number of years under special licensing arrangements and last year such imports were valued at around $500,000.
